Jean season is almost here and so is The Elemental Coat workshop! On November 1st, Cheri’ Hanschu will walk us through making a simple modular jacket with repurposed quilts, vintage textiles, or Kantha quilts. These are loose fitting with many options - you just have to choose your hem length, sleeve length, hood or collar, and even the pockets are optional! Your choice - your jacket! This is the perfect jacket to bring together the quilt makers, textile collectors and garment designers!
Grab the quilt of your choice - whether it be antique, new, or Kantha cloth and let's get rolling. Kantha cloth is a centuries-old tradition of stitching lively colored fabric pieces into cloth using long running stitches. They are lightweight with just two layers of cotton. They are available to see and purchase at the shop!
The workshop will be from 9-4 on Wednesday, November 1st. We already have quite a bit of interest, so sign up soon! You will need to have the main fabric - repurposed or new.
For example, a Kantha cloth approx 58 x 108 made a size 20-22 full length coat with a little longer than 3⁄4 sleeves and a collar. It did have a little bit of play room with the pattern design elements.
You will also need the bias binding for around all the edges. This is the fun part, be creative!
